Teaching Experience

3 years of professional tutoring: mathematics, further mathematics and biology (GCSE, iGCSE, and A-Level), across all abilities and major examination boards (Edexcel, AQA, OCR, Eduqas, WJEC, Cambridge International). Joshua teaches at pass borderline level, as well as specialising in grade 8/9 and A/A* achievement. Additional experience with SEND, principally ADHD. Joshua tailors sessions expertly, and provides interactive materials in order to engage children effectively. Further experience as a qualified windsurfing instructor, leading collaborative sessions for primary and secondary-aged children, with a focus on both safety and skill development. Joshua’s Favourite Success Story: “Earlier this year, I began working with a student based in Bulgaria who was predicted grade 5s in maths and biology. Through focused, weekly sessions from February onwards, we helped build her confidence and exam technique- leading to final results of a grade 7 in maths and grade 8 in biology.”

Bio

A truly passionate tutor of three years, Joshua is currently studying mechanical engineering, due to love of science and mathematics. He brings a calm, structured approach to tutoring, drawing on recent exam experience to help students improve exam technique, confidence and ultimately, results. He achieved A*AAA at A-level studying Maths, Physics, Biology and an EPQ. Outside the classroom, he plays rugby and is a keen windsurfer.

Tutoring Philosophy

Josh focuses on building strong foundations, encouraging problem-solving skills, and tailoring lessons to each student’s learning style to maximise confidence and results. “A-level and GCSE/iGCSE maths, for example, requires an essential understanding of the fundamentals (i.e. algebra, numeracy and graph skills) in order for the more serious calculus topics - such as trigonometry, differentiation and integration to make sense. In my lessons we will aim to cover these fundamental topics fully and ensure the student has a strong understanding before we move onto the higher level topics. Nearer exam season I recommend we turn our focus to exam style questions and past papers, where we will go through the harder questions from homework that I set the week before.”

Teaching Experience

Theo has one year of experience tutoring Mathematics at GCSE, IGCSE, and A Level. During this time, he has supported students with a wide range of abilities, from building foundational confidence in core topics to refining exam technique for top grades. His tutoring has covered key areas including algebra, calculus, mechanics, and problem-solving skills. Theo places a strong emphasis on developing students’ understanding of underlying concepts rather than rote memorisation, enabling them to apply their knowledge flexibly in exam settings. Through regular practice, targeted feedback, and structured revision planning, he has helped students improve both their mathematical performance and confidence.

Bio

Theo is currently studying for a BSc in Natural Sciences at the University of Leeds, specialising in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. His academic background enables him to approach problems analytically and explain concepts clearly from multiple perspectives. At A Level, he achieved A*A*AA in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and English Literature. Studying both scientific and essay-based subjects has strengthened his ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and structured manner, a skill that is invaluable in tutoring. As a current university student, Theo is familiar with the demands of modern examinations and specifications and has a strong understanding of the pressures students face today.

Tutoring Philosophy

Theo's teaching philosophy is centred around clarity, confidence and independence. 'I believe students perform best when they truly understand the “why” behind a method. I aim to break down complex topics into manageable steps, identify gaps in understanding, and build strong conceptual foundations. I also place strong emphasis on exam technique — helping students interpret questions accurately, structure solutions clearly, and avoid common pitfalls. Over time, my goal is to help students become independent learners who feel confident tackling unfamiliar problems on their own. Every student is different, so I adapt my teaching style to suit individual learning preferences and pace, creating a supportive but academically rigorous environment.'

Teaching Experience

2 years of professional teaching experience at the company First Class Learning working with students of a wide range of ages and abilities, from early years up to GCSE level, including students with special educational needs. Delivering tailored support in English language, Mathematics and all three sciences (chemistry, biology, physics). In addition, Rosie has provided one-to-one mentoring to a year 12 student in A-Level physics over the course of an academic year, supporting their understanding of complex concepts and exam preparation. Alongside academic teaching, Rosie has worked for 3 years as an assistant swim coach for children ages 3 to 9 and volunteered as a young leader for a Scout group. Strengthening her ability to engage learners in a positive and motivating environment while maintaining high standards of professionalism, structure, and safety.

Bio

Rosie is a current mechanical engineering student at the University of Leeds, having achieved AAB at A-Level in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry. A patient and empathetic tutor, who is passionate about bringing out the best in every student, helping them grow as people and learners as well as achieve measurable academic progress, and therefore excellent results. In her free time, Rosie enjoys keeping fit and is an avid reader.

Tutoring Philosophy

Rosie focuses on building strong, trusting relationships with her students, creating a supportive learning environment tailored to individual student needs. 'I believe each child has a unique learning style, so my lessons are made to accommodate this. For primary age, I focus on understanding core concepts (numbers, shapes, measures), while secondary on consolidating fundamentals (e.g. algebra, geometry, etc. for maths, forces, energy, etc. for physics) before progressing to more challenging concepts and finally a strong focus on exam style questions. The pace is adapted to each student, spending extra time on difficult areas, but ultimately reaching the same improved academic results. A key part of my approach is instilling self-belief. When students gain confidence and resilience they become invested in their own learning journey, are more engaged and can tackle higher level concepts with greater ease due to perseverance and a 'not giving up at the first hurdle' attitude. Propelling academic progress significantly!'
